Flight Instructor Assignment Guidelines
How Instructor Assignment Works
BFC assigns flight instructors through two lists: the Priority List and the Reserve List. Which list you are placed on depends on your membership status and the type of training you require.
Due to high demand for flight instructors, there may be a waiting period before an instructor becomes available. Understanding the two lists will help you plan your training timeline.
Priority List
Priority List - Licensed Members
The Priority List is for licensed members who already hold at least a Private Pilot Licence and are seeking additional ratings or advanced training.
Eligible training includes:
- Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
- Instrument Rating (IFR)
- Multi-Engine Rating
- Night Rating
- Instructor Rating
- Other advanced ratings and endorsements
Licensed members requesting instructor assignment should complete the Priority List request form available at the front desk or by contacting the Chief Flight Instructor.
Reserve List
Reserve List - PPL/RPP Students
The Reserve List is for unlicensed members who are working towards their Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP).
Before being placed on the Reserve List, you must complete the following:
- Brampton Flying Club membership (Associate Member)
- A minimum of 6 ground school classes completed
- Radio Operator Certificate (ROC) exam passed
- PSTAR exam passed
- Valid aviation medical certificate on file
Once all of the above requirements are met, you may submit the Reserve List request form at the front desk. You will be contacted when an instructor becomes available.
