Airport Safety

Safety is the top priority at Brampton-Caledon Airport. All airport users are expected to follow established safety rules and procedures. The airport operates under a Safety Management System (SMS) with a non-punitive reporting program that investigates root causes of incidents and hazards.

Airport Watch Program

The Airport Watch Program relies on all airport users to help maintain a safe and secure environment. The program has two core components:

Lock Up

  • Secure all hangar doors when not in use
  • Close all security gates behind you
  • Use aircraft locks on your aircraft
  • Never leave vehicles unattended on the apron

Look Out

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • Report any unusual or suspicious activity
  • Watch for unauthorized individuals on the airside
  • Note and report any unattended baggage or items

Federal Offence

It is a federal offence to tamper with any aircraft, aircraft component, or aviation facility. Violations are taken extremely seriously and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Ground Operations Safety

  • Always yield to moving aircraft on taxiways and the apron
  • Maintain situational awareness around propellers and rotors
  • Follow all posted speed limits on airport roadways (max 20 km/h on the apron)
  • Wear high-visibility clothing when working on the ramp at night
  • Keep FOD (Foreign Object Debris) off all movement areas
  • Do not enter runway surfaces without clearance or a proper lookout
  • Ensure all passengers are briefed before entering the airside environment

Safety Management System (SMS)

BFC operates a comprehensive Safety Management System. The SMS includes a company safety policy, SMS management plan, occurrence and hazard reporting, safety committee, safety inspections, emergency response plans, and ongoing safety communication and education programs. The Chief Aviation Safety Officer (CASO) oversees all SMS activities.

The reporting program is non-punitive; safety reports are investigated to determine root causes and implement corrective actions. The only exceptions are cases involving criminal intent, gross negligence, or substance use.

Report a Safety Concern

If you observe a safety hazard or are involved in a safety-related occurrence, please report it promptly. BFC Occurrence Reporting Forms are available at the front desk and online.
